In honor of a beloved member of the Florida Babe Ruth Softball family
Florida Babe Ruth Softball, Inc. has established the Christy Lopez Scholarship in memory of a dedicated umpire, mentor, and community champion who gave 23 years of service to the game she loved. This annual scholarship is presented to deserving applicants in honor of her contributions to our community.
Christy Hunt Lopez was an umpire for 23 years, NUA certified, a friend to many, and a cherished member of our Babe Ruth family. She umpired for both baseball and softball — from T-ball through high school and college showcase softball — giving decades of her life to youth sports across Florida.
Christy called many District and State Tournaments throughout her career and was a member of the World Series umpiring crew multiple times — a testament to her skill, dedication, and love of the game.
Christy was always willing to call a game no matter what, and even continued to do so during times of illness — she never let the kids down. She fought a good fight and was a true fighter with a big heart.
The Christy Lopez Scholarship was established by Florida Babe Ruth Softball, Inc. in her memory, ensuring her legacy lives on through the student-athletes she would have cheered for from behind home plate.
The Christy Lopez Scholarship is awarded annually to deserving student-athletes who are part of the Florida Babe Ruth Softball community.
Presented in honor of Christy's 23-year contribution to Florida Babe Ruth Softball as an NUA certified umpire, mentor, and community member.
